Overused Words: Bulletproof
February 8, 2009 @ 11:22 pm
Bulletproof. Is there a more overused word when it comes to web design and CSS? I’m not sure there is. It’s one of those things that has been used so much it starts to lose it’s meaning. Maybe it’s just the mood I’m in but the word really gets on my nerves of late.
There must be a thousand articles out there: Bulletproof HTML, bulletproof page menu labels, bulletproof rounded corners, bulletproof drop-down menus, and so on.
We’ll take the second meaning of bulletproof on dictionary.com:
Informal Impervious to assault, damage, or failure; guaranteed: a bulletproof method; bulletproof arguments.
Is there anything bulletproof about the work we do? It’s like setting yourself up for failure right away when you label something you’ve done impervious to failure. I mostly kid, but there has to be a better word to use here. I can’t think of one though.
